Overview
The red-eared slider turtle is one of the most popular aquatic turtles, known for its distinctive red stripes on its cheeks. It requires a spacious aquarium with a basking area, UV light, and significant care.
The red-eared slider (Trachemys scripta elegans) is probably the best-known and most popular aquatic turtle in the pet trade. Originally from the warm waters of the United States, particularly the Mississippi region, its distinguishing feature is the red stripe behind its eyes, making it easily recognizable. While often considered easy to care for, this turtle species actually requires a well-equipped aquarium, regular care, and plenty of space to stay healthy. It can also grow quite large and live for a long time, so purchasing one should be carefully considered.
