The seed mixture "Linsor tortoise herb mixture" presents itself as a promising product for all those who want to offer their tortoises a natural and healthy diet. With a selection of meadow herbs such as ribwort plantain, dandelion and white clover, the mixture promises to strengthen the tortoise's defenses and ensure active and fit animals.
However, when trying out the seed mixture in our own terrarium, we noticed that only white clover, ribwort plantain and dandelion germinated. This could be due to the steppe-like environmental factors, which may not have been ideal for all the seeds, or to my lack of sensitivity to plants.
However, it is not unusual for not all seeds in a mixture to germinate. The germination rate can depend on many factors, such as the quality of the seed, the soil conditions, the weather and the care taken when sowing. Since only a part of the promised herbal diversity has grown, there remains a certain doubt as to whether the full range of the mixture delivers what it promises or whether the sowing conditions were not optimal.
For future sowings, it might be helpful to obtain more detailed instructions on sowing and caring for the seeds or to test the mixture under more controlled conditions to determine whether there is user error or the seed mixture itself does not meet expectations.
Overall, however, the "Linsor Tortoise Herb Mix" offers a lovingly compiled option for anyone who wants to feed their tortoises a species-appropriate and varied diet. With a little more practice and perhaps an adapted approach, you could succeed next time in cultivating an even more varied herb meadow for your armored friends.
